| As many schools are turning to the use of portfolios as a means of assessment
and to guide instruction, they are finding themselves frustrated with
storage and transportation of students' work. Now as technology is introduced
into the classrooms, there are many educators who are looking for a way
to produce, store and evaluate student portfolios in a digital format.
Many teachers are attempting computer generated student portfolios, but
without the right tools this can create a whole new set of problems and
training needs.
With FolioMaker a user simply clicks on the interface
to insert content (docs, video, audio images etc), then
chooses to burn the portfolio to disc or save it to a network or removable
storage device.
A portfolio is a work in progress so at any time a user can go back and
edit work. A cd can be burnt if required, to take home to mum, take
to an interview, assessment.....
FolioMaker is a very simple template based program, so the student does not need to have any multimedia skills
- the look and the buttons are already there and the links are made automatically
as the user adds the content. This saves an enormous amount of time (both
class time and staff professional development time) and also has the benefit
of creating a "level playing field" for all students when creating
digital portfolios.
FolioMaker is also a great tool for showing the wider
school community what students are doing at school.
