The yearly license has evolved for a number of
reasons, one being that we plan to continually enhance and add to FolioMaker
and supply these extra features at no added cost. (these will be added
features, not just bug fixes etc)
Another reason it is priced this
way is because we are aiming for users to one day replace their paper-based
portfolios with FolioMaker. Many schools that are using, or plan to use
FolioMaker have commented on how the students spend a lot more than $10/yr on
plastic folders, paper, photocopying, video tapes....so they see FolioMaker as
a much cheaper and convenient option.
In April 2008 we added a "purchase outright" option. Please check our
order page for details.

FolioMaker is delivered as an msi installer via a web download.
After your order is placed and payment is made an email with a download link will automatically be sent to you.
Yes, you install FolioMaker on every machine that you wish to use it on. FolioMaker is usually installed as part of the computer image then distributed to all user machines, but this varies from school to school.
Most likely! We are continually enhancing
FolioMaker and adding new features. Please email us with any suggestions or
wishes and we will do our best to include them in the next update.
When you add files to a portfolio they are stored on the drive you save your portfolio to, in a folder called media. The media folder is a subfolder in your
portfolio folder; it is created automatically when you save or preview.
These files are copies of the original files. FolioMaker does not change the files in any way.
FolioMaker can display a range of files internally. Any file
type that cannot be displayed internally within FolioMaker will be launched in
its default application.
Files that can be displayed internally are AVI, MOV, MPG,
WMV, MP3, WAV, SWF, PDF.
We recommend you stick to standard formats such as wmv, mp3, pdf etc so that there will be no compatibility issues when a cd is viewed on another PC.
We also recommend that when adding Powerpoint files you insert PPS rather than PPT.
There are a number of video file types you can add to your portfolio, but when doing so just follow these simple guidelines.
Use common video formats and codecs (MPG1, MPG2, WMV, Quicktime, AVI (Cinepak)
Keep your display size down. We recommend a maximum of 320X240. This will result in smaller file sizes and smoother playback.
Deinterlace your video – if your video editing program has this option, please choose it.
WMV files exported from Windows Movie maker are the preferred option.
You can work on as many portfolios simultaneously as you like, just remember to save each one to a different folder.
You can open multiple portfolios up as tabs so that you can easily move between them.
No, you don’t
need to be connected to the Internet to use FolioMaker; FMPro is not a web-based
product.
With the new version of Foliomaker the number of sections and links you can add is unlimited.
To add a new section just hit the "Add" button at the bottom of the button panel.

To add a link to a section just click the "Add Link" button under the section you want to add the link to.
This is not likely to happen unless you add large uncompressed video files to your portfolio. You can also choose to burn your folio to a DVD disc.
No, a person viewing your cd does not need any
special software to open your portfolio, it is all added to the cd. But please
be aware that when you use 3rd party files such as docs or xls, the end viewer
will need the appropriate program (ie Word or Excel).
When viewing images on a computer it is best to use just
72dpi as this is as much as a computer screen can display. We recommend that
you use images that are 800X600 and below as this saves space and memory.
When you insert larger images into FolioMaker they will automatically
reduce in size to fit the viewing area, but the actual filesize will not change.
In FolioMaker your linked images will display in
the viewing area, if you would like to enlarge them you may hit the “Launch
Externally” button. This will open the image in its default application (eg.
Windows Picture Viewer or Picasa).
Images that you insert into the section area can be edited by double clicking
them...

then using the zoom controls....
Just click your right mouse button while over the
image then choose delete.
You sure can! Just drag'n'drop.
Just click on the button you want to move, hold the click then drag it to the new location.
All information attached to that section or link will follow.
Drag across it with your mouse to select it then
hit delete on the keyboard.
No, FolioMaker is very flexible. We have seen
people use it for resumes, family history, to deliver lessons to students, job
applications, school applications, assessment…etc. Now we also have specialized
versions which are curriculum specific to help teachers evaluate students. We have just released the Queensland Early Years version and will soon release PYP, MYP and VELS versions.
Right click the tab and click "Close Tab"
These areas are just for adding text to describe
the file that you have linked. Hence you cannot add images but you can use the
other formatting options and you can also add or record sound files.
Yes, in the new FolioMaker Pro you can now customise both the skin and the animated intro. Just click the buttons at the bottom of the screen to access these modules.
You can also download new
intros and
skins here on our website.
Yes, there is a file called “SaveFolio.ini” in your
FolioMaker install folder.
You can add the default folio save path as well as the
default template save path here.

It is recommended that you launch any files in their external
default application to do your editing. FolioMaker is not an edit program; it
is for displaying edited files.
If you need to burn multiple (unique) folios to disc, rather than open each one and burn it from FolioMaker you can use another program such as Nero or Windows Explorer to do the burning.
Just make sure that you drag all the files and folders in the root folder of your portfolio directory across to the root of the disc. The autorun.inf file must be in the root of the disc for the disc to play automatically.
