| | | Folios International Partner with Lutheran Education | | | November 2007 | Folios International are pleased to announce that we have
partnered with Lutheran Education South Eastern Region
(Vic/Tas/NSW). Together we are developing "Learning with Purpose" -
a learning and teaching management system.
Learning with Purpose
(LwP) is being developed to provide co-ordination of, and connection between
the component parts of a school’s learning and teaching program. Integral to
LwP is student understanding and ownership of their learning and the capacity
of a school to provide a co-ordinated whole school program which will provide
pathways for individual students.
LwP is supported by a database.
Central to the function of LwP is a unit planning template which is the point
of connectivity for inputs and outputs. The unit plan connects 3 inputs
(Mission/Policies, Curriculum framework and Annual planner/Unit Plan) with 3
outputs (Assessment, Recording and Reporting).
LwP can be adapted to
suit State/Territory systems and/or the needs of individual schools. The
LwP Learning and Teaching Management System includes a school management
system or can be connected to most schools’ existing management
system.
The LwP unit plan, and associated assessment rubric, is based
on a model of learning and is designed to develop student understanding and
ownership of the learning. The unit plan, which provid e s definitions
of the component parts of the learning model, also provides professional
learning for teachers each time they plan a unit of work.
Curriculum
inputs, once entered into the curriculum plan, automatically populate the
fields within assessment, recording and reporting templates.

Introduction to the School:
As part of the HKSAR Government's strategy to provide parents with greater choice for their children's schooling, the Private Independent School initiative was introduced. A total of 10 sites were chosen for this initiative with the sites being allocated to providers following a competitive process. ESF was allocated two sites one of which is located at Yi Pak Bay in Discovery Bay, Lantau Island.
The new Private Independent School in Discovery Bay combines a primary school and a secondary school which, in Hong Kong is called a "through train" school. There are 540 places for 5 to 11 year old students in the primary school - that is Years 1 - 6 in the ESF system. There are another 600 places in the Middle School for 11 to 16 year olds (Years 7 - 11) and 240 places in the Senior School for 16 to 18 year olds (Years 12 and 13).
